How to fix upload speed issues
  1. Wifi Download Slower Than Upload
  2. Slow Download Speed Comcast
  3. Why Is My Upload Speed So Slow

Hello All-
I've tried researching this on the web but can't seem to find anything that matches my situation. I recently switched from DSL to Cable internet service. I have a desktop and a laptop in the house. The desktop is connected directly to the router and is working very well - much faster than the DSL in both download and upload speed. The laptop is wireless and is now MUCH slower than the previous DSL connection. The funny thing is, the upload speeds on the laptop are consistently just as fast as the desktop. Here are my results from speedtest.net:
Desktop (Connected Directly Through Router):
Donwload: 24373 kb/s
Upload: 1537 kb/s
Laptop (Wireless):
Download: 323 kb/s
Upload: 1420 kb/s
Why would my wireless Upload speed be 4.5x FASTER than my Download speed? I was getting about 5x faster with DSL.
If it helps diagnose, the laptop is using Windows Vista with a Dell 1505 Draft 802.11n built-in wireless card. The router is a Linksys WRT160N. I've seen a wireless connection speed ranging anywhere from 13.0 to 130.0.
I've also considered that I have a 2.4 GHZ cordless phone in the house which could cause some interference. I've disconnected and unplugged that phone and replaced it with a corded phone and that didn't make any difference.
My signal strength is excellent on the laptop even when I'm on the main floor of the house (the router is upstairs).
I believe I have the latest firmware installed.
Do I need to adjust my router settings somehow? I have a WPA2 security with what I think is a good passkey. What other information can I provide for further assistance?

Recently, I installed a Samsung 840EVO SSD in my Windows 8.1 computer. Windows appears to run fast and fine so far as I can tell. Booting is also faster.

Slow internet Download Speeds, fast upload. Over the last month around early afternoon until late afternoon our speeds plummet. Download is about.10Mbps and upload is around 30Mbps. This happens over both wireless and hardwired. There would have to be a huge bandwidth hog in-house to take the remaining bandwidth down to the relatively. Sometimes slow upload speeds are the fault of your Internet Service Provider. We recommend a high speed internet connection with high upload speeds. Often with Cable and DSL, the upload speed is significantly slower than the download speed. This will result in fast loading times for most websites and file downloads, but slow uploads. I usually get around 25Mb/s download speed, but I just tested my internet speed and this is my result: Sometimes it will get as low as 0.4 Mb/s and even at 13 Mb/s, the internet is really hard to use.

  1. I removed that router and replaced it with a switch and my speed tests were. Anybody know why having this 2nd router destroyed my speeds?
  2. Yeah I tried with an iPhone 5S, iPad 3, 2010 Macbook Air (running bootcamp windows 7) and a windows 7 desktop computer. All give me the same horrific download speeds ~8 mbps but 40+ mbps upload.

Wifi Download Slower Than Upload

However, the SSD appears to be severely slowing download and upload speeds. Because I'm able to easily switch hard drives on my desktop computer, I've run the same speed test (speedtest.net) running Windows 8.1 on a hard drive and Windows 7 on a hard drive. In both cases, download and upload speeds were normal, about 12-Mbps down and 1.5-Mbps up.

Slow Download Speed Comcast

My Roku equipped computer receives Wi-Fi from my U-verse Gateway. With the computer off, Roku performs normally but is slower loading programs with the computer on and running Windows 8.1 on the SSD.

Why Is My Upload Speed So Slow

Are there known compatibility problems with Windows 8.1 or any operating system running on an SSD? When I first presented the problem to U-verse, I was told my Gateway was defective and was sent a new one. However, installing the new Gateway didn't fix the problem. I told U-verse the Gateway didn't fix the problem and was referred to a group that handles special problems for a stiff fee, which I declined. So, I hope someone in the Microsoft Community has a way to fix the speed problem. Otherwise, I'll have to operate Windows 8.1 from a hard drive, which I don't want to do.
